The Art of Possibility - chapters 5-8
Okay so I don't know if it's just because I am in early labor and yes reading these chapters while having contractions but I really don't understand chapter five. The most I can get from it is that our ability to listen to others influences our ability to be successful leaders. The chapter did not resonate with me the least bit with the imagery that was used. On the other hand chapter 6 struck my fancy. I think I love this Rule number 6. I firmly believe that to be at peace with yourself, or someone that others look to for guidance, or even just going through our daily lives, one cannot and should not take themselves or others too seriously. I tell this to my husband all the time when he gets so amped up about things he thinks are unfair in sports or work I try to gently tell him nonchalantly about Rule number 6. Who I would really love to remind of Rule number 6 are administrators and those above us in rank. There are times to take things seriously, but we need to remember that we can't always take ourselves too seriously and we shouldn't take others too seriously either. One should not settle for what is expected, a little push back to start above the status quo to make the difference is always needed. This leads to being passionate enough about something that you figure out what is not working and figure out a new point to start to get things working successfully.

First of all, how in the WORLD are you going to finish this thing with a brand spankin’ new baby!!! Congrats on your new little one coming soon. We just had a baby a few weeks back and it’s been the best thing in the world -- but I had to take a month off. Probably more than that if I was the one having the kid :)
ReplyDeleteSo on to your comments... I agree with both positions you took. On chapter 6, I believe it was mainly saying to be fun and sometimes crazy. Kids need to see that you are human and are interested in them. If you love to do something, show it to the kids and be inspiring. That’s what gets students motivated to do something... anything...And if they aren’t passionate about the same thing you are, they’ll at least see what it looks like to be fun and go at things with all of your heart.
